Between 1895 - 1903 Innocent Dumolin received land (where the Marlenaz sits today) as a loan from the municipality Bagnes and proceeded to build a mazot with the help of friends.

On the 7th of August, 1959, Innocents son, Mr. Ernest Dumolin (1916-1983) was given the concession to exploit ‘unebuvette au lieu dit “Le Clou/Verbier”’ in the region of Pierre Avoi.  Between 1959-1960 Ernest finally turned the mayen into a refreshments bar and opened it to the public in 1960.

When Ernest died in 1983, his mother and sisters inherited la Marlenaz and one of the sisters' sons, Gerard Mayer, took care of it for 3 years until he finally bought it in 1985.

On 20th June 1985 the Bourgeoisie of Bagnes sold the land but the building itself remained in the hands of Gerard. Gerard then rented it to the family of Jean-Pierre Orellier from 1990 until its sale to current owners Daniel and Frances Bruchez in the year 2000.

Daniel and Frances also run the famous Cabane Mt Fort Cabin on the ski slopes of Verbier which boasts the most stunning panorama. They took over the cabane in 1983 and continue to run both mountain restaurants to this day.
